Contexts are usually stored in a kubeconfig file, which is by default located at ~/.kube/config on macOS and Linux and %USERPROFILE%\.kube\config on Windows. A context is a set of data used by kubectl to identify where to reach the Kubernetes API for a particular cluster, which credentials to use, etc. This is done using the concept of contexts. When you work on more than one Kubernetes cluster, kubectl needs to know on which cluster to run your commands. In this article, we will use these notations interchangeably.
